Gustave Aimard; real name - Olivier Gloux (French Gloux); 13.9.1818, Paris, - 20.6.1883, ibid.) - French writer, author of adventure novels, one of the classics of the Western genre in literature. Along with Eugene Xu and Paul Feval - the most popular representative of French mass literature of the XIX century. Emar's works were very popular in pre-revolutionary Russia. In 1899, a 12-volume edition of his works was published in St. Petersburg. The writer's novels were read by Nikolai Gumilyov, Alexander Green, Samuil Marshak. The twenty-first volume of the collected works of G. Emar included the first part of the novel "The Adventures of Michel Hartmann."
