Great construction projects of communism - an expression that was used to designate the largest and most significant construction projects for the national economy in the USSR. After the end of World War II, in 1946, the Law on the Five-Year Plan for the Restoration and Development of the National Economy in the USSR (Fourth Five-Year Plan of the USSR) was adopted, and then a number of special decrees stimulating the construction and modernization of hydraulic structures in the USSR. In 1947-1948 a comprehensive program was developed aimed at preventing droughts, sand dust storms by building reservoirs, planting forest stands and introducing grass rotations in the southern regions of the USSR.
