The physical foundations of two areas of neutron physics are outlined: physics of a thermal neutron nuclear reactor and neutron optics. The successes of neutron optics in physical research and solving applied problems are considered. For undergraduate and graduate students of physical specialties of universities, it can be useful to scientists and engineers in the field of nuclear physics.
