The book is a revised and slightly updated version of the two-volume Essays from the History of Modern Abkhazia published by the author earlier (in 2004-2007) in Georgian. Based on an analysis of the relevant primary sources, as well as a critical understanding of the existing historiographic heritage, it sets out the history of modern Abkhazia from ancient times to 1993, shows the ethnocultural and national-state appearance of the region throughout history, gives a thorough criticism of the falsification statements of some separatist historians about the 12 and even 25-century history of the Abkhaz "national" statehood itself.
