This is the book of one of the most famous American political scientists, editor-in-chief of Newsweek International weekly. In it, the author is trying to prepare the reader for such a political structure of the world in which the United States will not be an unconditional hegemon. This is a world in which "the exaltation of the rest of humanity" takes place. Zakaria shows that such a world can be imagined as the result of the development of modern society, but the United States, the author believes, is simply obliged to play the role of a power in this world, "first among equals."
