Initially, this type of aviation, equipped mainly with clumsy-looking three-engine Ju-52 aircraft, was created in the Third Reich to serve the parachute troops. For the first time, airborne assault forces were used during the Polish campaign. Then, the period of the capture of Denmark, Norway, Holland, Belgium, Greece, the Luftwaffe transport aviation literally "by the forces of one parachute regiment" captured airfields, fortresses and strategically important bridges. Paratroopers suddenly descended from heaven directly onto the enemy's head, preparing bridgeheads for unloading the main landing. Already in May 1940, transport aircraft for the first time had to supply troops cut off in the enemy rear by air. In the future, this function of them became the main one.
