The textbook gives a brief history and state of fruit growing in the USSR, gives the biological and production characteristics of fruit plants, sets out the biological basis for managing growth and fruiting, tells about the organization of a fruit nursery. Agricultural technology of fruit and berry crops is described in detail. Much attention is paid to such issues as the choice of a place for planting a garden, organization of the territory, selection and placement of varieties, planting a system of maintenance and tillage in the garden, fertilization, irrigation, formation and pruning of crowns of fruit trees. The ways of intensive development of fruit growing and the industrial technology of growing fruit crops are highlighted.
