This volume for the first time publishes the fundamental manuscript work of the diplomat and traveler Y. P. Haverdovsky, well known to specialists in the history of Kazakhstan, "Review of the Kirghiz-Kaisatsky steppe (in two parts), written in 1804. It gives a detailed description of the geography of Kazakhstan, the history, tribal composition and culture of the Kazakhs, provides original historical legends about the circumstances of the reign of Tauke Khan and the liberation struggle of the Kazakh people against the Dzungars, and contains a number of other very valuable information about his social life during the 18th century.
