Hummel, who threw the bridge between classics and romanticism, K. M. von Weber, F. Mendelssohn Bartholdi, R. Schumann, I. Brahms and A. Bruckner. Doctor and scientist A. Neumayr analyzes the biographies of the masters, paying special attention to their illnesses or the later consequences of these ailments. The influence of diseases on creativity is also in the author's field of vision. He scrupulously examines sources, statements of contemporaries, collects memories, scattered facts and often enters into contradictions with medical colleagues. He makes his diagnoses based on the achievements of modern science, taking, however, into account the testimonies of contemporaries and documents of that time.
