This edition is a collection of photographic photographs taken in 1908 in Mogao, during the expedition of 1906-1908 to Dunhuang, the famous French explorer, orientalist P. Pellio. All black and white photographs were shot by an expedition employee. After hundreds of caves were numbered from south to north, statues and frescoes in the caves were photographed, thus creating the first photographic account of this monument. The collection of photographs is extremely valuable as it includes photographs of art monuments that were later lost due to natural disasters and deliberate human activity. Many of the frescoes preserved to this day are presented in the photographs in their more preserved form.
