Buckle Henry Thomas (1821-62), English. sociologist, author of the famous book "History of civilization in England" ("History of civilization in England," L., 1857-61). Early death prevented B. from completing his enormous research: his book ends at the 18th century. Historical material serves for B. only as an illustration of his philosophical, historical or sociological convictions, which arose under the strong influence of Comte's positive philosophy, whose views he applies rather one-sidedly.
