The types of excavators used in open-pit mining, their characteristics, design, design of components and basic provisions for the operation of machines in quarries (scope of application, installation, organization of work, maintenance and repair system, maintenance operations, lubricants used) are considered. Operational calculations are given, as well as calculations of units and systems of excavators, machine parts, safety measures during operation of excavators.
