A brief description of the structure, macro- and microstructure defects of dead steel ingots cast in ingots, continuously cast ingots and billets, as well as non-metallic inclusions in cast and deformed metal is given. A large number of photographs of defects of steel ingots are given. The reasons and conditions of defects formation during metal deformation, measures to prevent them and possible ways to correct defects are considered.
