The material base for the book was the records of the dialect speech of the Novgorod Territory during dialectological expeditions with student philologists of the Novgorod Pedagogical Institute over the past 30 years. It contains texts of live speech and words denoting elevated and low-lying places, various slopes, swamps, shallows, islands, pits and many other features of the landscape. An illustrative material is given for different settlements. Local place names are also noted here.
