The book includes materials on the history of the first Russian august pilgrimage to the Holy Land, undertaken by Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich in 1859. This trip contributed to the restoration of Russian influence in the Orthodox East after the Crimean War and created the conditions for the development of mass pilgrimage from Russia.
