The book covers the study of the vortex effect, known as the Rank effect, and its practical application. Results of thermodynamic and gas-dynamic study of vortex tube are described, influence of various factors on its efficiency is considered. Based on the vortex interaction hypothesis, the physical essence of the vortex effect is explained and analytical relationships are given to calculate the limiting characteristics of the vortex tube.
