The translation was made from the second edition of the handbook, prepared with the participation of 54 specialists from various industries and published in the USA in 1976. It examines the theoretical foundations of vibration and shock, measurement methods and measuring equipment, provides vibration standards, sets out methods for studying and analyzing the results obtained when studying the effects of vibration and shock on various ship structures and mechanical equipment. Most of the material is devoted to protecting structures from shock loads. The handbook is designed for a wide range of specialists in shipbuilding and other industries interested in the strength of ship structures and machines under impact loads.
