Lui is a charming French adult magazine created in November 1963 by Daniel Filipacchi, a fashion photographer turned publisher, Jacques Lanzmann, a jack of all trades turned novelist, and Frank Teno, a press agent, pataphysician and jazz critic. The aim was to bring some "a la francaise" charm to the men's magazine market, following Playboy's success in the US, launched just a decade before.
