The place of binding materials and technologies for their production in the history of human civilization is shown. The history of appearance and development of different types of binding materials is considered. Clay is presented as the simplest binder, gypsum and calcareous air binders, the emergence of calcareous hydraulic mortars and concretes, the development of romancement and portland cement technology.
