The book is dedicated to the heroic defense of the city of Lenin during the Great Patriotic War. It tells about how Leningraders worked and lived during the blockade, about the courageous struggle of the besieged, which lasted about 900 days. The basis for the book was archival materials and personal observations of the author, who during the war was deputy chairman of the Executive Committee of the Leningrad City Council and headed the city planning commission.
