The novel "Captain Fracasse" is the most popular historical and adventure work of the French writer Theophile Gauthier (1811-1872). This novel has been translated into many languages ​ ​ of the world and has been repeatedly filmed. The adventures of the heroes take place during the time of Louis XIII. The novel was first published in Paris in 1863 with illustrations by Gustave Doret, which adorn this edition. The text is given in the translation of I. I. Yasinsky. For the first time, a full translation of the novel with a preface by Theophilus Gauthier is reproduced in Russian.
