Judge Michael Masmanno headed in 1948 the tribunal in Nuremberg in the case of punitive einsatzgruppen. His book is a description of the process involving a huge number of documentary materials and many eyewitness accounts of the atrocities committed. The judge gave a legally sound and deeply moral assessment of the massacres, leaving vivid and memorable portraits of war criminals and their victims.
