The hero of the book is the outstanding polar explorer Roald Amundsen. He was the only one to visit both poles of the Earth and circumnavigated the world in the waters of the Arctic Ocean. He passed the Northern Sea Route along the shores of Eurasia and was the first to defeat the Northwest Passage off the coast of North America.
