One is an elven quarteron with a crazy dream of becoming a spaceship pilot, the other is an outcast rejected by his own family, looking for his place in life. Once accessible only to birds, the sky of Tarn is now plowed by airplanes, which are assembled at dwarf and Soligian factories, flyers cut through the air on an anti-gravity pillow of the Rensian assembly. Spaceships of dwarves, the release of which is funded by the Soligian Empire, leviathans created by people in close cooperation with the elves, and clumsy Ork dishes trying to impersonate these very ships, go into space.
