A scientific and artistic book about the formation - through difficulties and defeats - of a theory that explains the modern appearance of the Earth by the horizontal movement (expansion) of large plates of the earth's crust, accompanied by an outpouring of basalt masses, the formation of folded mountains and oceanic depressions. A significant place in the book is given to the description of the life and scientific activities of Alfred Wegener, the author of the continental drift hypothesis.
