The novel "American Tragedy" by the famous American realist writer of the first half of the 20th century Theodore Dreiser became the pinnacle of the writer's work. The book tells how the desire to break out of the lower classes of society and realize the "American dream" leads a young man to murder. The text is given in translation by Z. Vershinina and N. Gal.
