Scientific foundations, current state and development prospects of the technology of cutting long products into measured billets in dies, as well as the design of cutting dies are considered. Classification of methods and schemes of segments is presented. The impact of a complex of factors on the length and quality of blanks is considered. Achievable indices of billets are given.
