The collection "The Ukrainian Question in Russian Patriotic Thought" for the first time publishes under one cover the works of representatives of Russian state-patriotic thought, dedicated to Ukrainian nationalism, which arose in the middle of the XIX century. In the journalism of the Slavophiles, M.N. Katkov and journalists of his circle, conservatives and nationalists of the second half of the XIX - early XX centuries, Russian conservative thinkers and historians who found themselves in exile, the "Ukrainian question" was thoroughly analyzed and was considered in all its main aspects. From the very beginning, Russian thinkers caught the potential threat posed by the ideology and practice of "Ukrainism," primarily its Russophobic and anti-state components. The vast majority of materials included in the collection were not reprinted after 1917, some of the texts presented in the collection were published in small-circulation collections and editions. But they collected together represent a merciless and objective analysis of "Ukraine" as an initially anti-Russian project. Most of the forecasts of the authors of the materials of the collection turned out to be strikingly accurate and found vivid confirmation in recent events in Ukraine, Crimea and Novorossiya in 2014-2015.
