Among the researchers of the Holocaust - a uniquely terrible tragedy of the 20th century - Zygmunt Bauman took a special place. The largest sociologist in Europe, Bauman refused to reduce the Holocaust to "German guilt" and "the catastrophe of the Jews," or to the (undoubted for him) crime of Hitlerism. This alone caused a global scandal. Bauman reveals the mechanics of the Holocaust within modernity itself - our modern civilization. The Holocaust, as well as the Gulag and Hiroshima, is quite possible as part of modernization. In a technocratic society, where funds replace values ​ ​ and goals, where "effective managers" abstract from the social price of reforms and managerial actions. The Holocaust is not history, it is relevant and can return to the world in a new way. Bauman's concept justifies the connection between political theory and political ethics.
