The book, which is an international reference on this problem, discusses the architectural and planning solutions of Finnish steam baths. It is told about the origin of the ritual, its traditions, the physiological effect of the sauna on a person. The materials recommended for the construction of saunas, the principles of designing steam baths, their equipment are described. Particular attention is paid to wood in creating a sauna microclimate. There is a clear imbalance between the rapid spread of saunas and the lack of literature on their construction and operation. One of the reasons is that in their homeland, in Finland, a sauna is a given. There are more saunas than cars, and every three out of four people use the sauna regularly. No wonder, then, that Finns may not need detailed guidelines. However, in recent decades, there have been changes in both the construction and operation of saunas. Urban residents enjoy saunas that differ substantially from those in rural areas, where they have remained unchanged for centuries. The rapid spread of Finnish sauna in Europe and beyond has increased the need for information about this phenomenon.
