The son of a ship engineer and a Norwegian shipyard, he went to sea only to soon return loaded with fresh fish. Sometimes, however, there were transportation of people or goods, but this did not happen too often. Measured everyday life flowed away from surprises, but this was not what a young fishing ship would really like.
