This book, which tells about new ways of significantly more efficient use of resources for the sake of universal security, health, justice and prosperity, made a strong impression in Western Europe and beyond. After the first publication of the book in 1995 the Dutch and German governments, and then the European Community, chose the ideas it described as the basis for sustainable development.
