The book contains the works of the famous Russian writer Vasily Nikiforov-Volgin (1901-1941). By the will of fate, being far from Russia, he turns in his work to the theme of the Motherland, faith, to the problems of good and evil and moral choice. The heroes of Nikiforov-Volgin are a child who joins Orthodoxy, a Red Army soldier who repents of his sins, a soldier who showed compassion for his enemy on the battlefield, a priest who experienced the hardships of war, revolution, and persecution of the Church. The writer shows us ordinary Russian people. They have different destinies and life paths, but the love for their Fatherland that they carry in their hearts unites them. Faith becomes a moral guideline for them - the only, according to Vasily Nikiforov-Volgin himself, reliable support in life.
