The dictionary in a popular form reveals the origin and meaning of more than 2500 surnames. It includes surnames widespread among Russians, the origin of which is not entirely obvious to the general reader, as well as rare surnames carried by prominent cultural figures of Russia. This edition of the dictionary has been updated with a number of new dictionary entries, some information in old dictionary entries has been updated.
