The idea that humanity is not alone in the universe is very old. The ancient Greek philosopher, epicurean Metrodor, said back in the 2nd century BC: "To consider the Earth as the only inhabited world in infinite space would be as blatant absurdity as to say that only one wheat ear could grow on a huge sown field."
