This book is an independent part of a large study about the place occupied by the works of Dickens in Russian literature and - more broadly - Russian culture of the XIX-XX centuries. It covers a significant period in Russian literary life and characterizes the perception of Dickens in Russia from the first mention of him in the Russian press and his first translations into Russian until the beginning of the 60s of the last century, that is, the most fruitful period of Dickens' development by Russian writers, readers and critics.
