The book "Categories of Medieval Culture," first published in 1972, has gained recognition in world science. It unfolds in a general form and at the same time, based on an analysis of various types of historical sources, a picture of the world of a medieval man. The focus is on the image of the "Other," i.e. a person who, in his own way, did not realize and experienced social and natural reality in modern times and, in accordance with this understanding, built his behavior. Thus, the monograph develops the principles of historical anthropology - the direction of historical thought that puts human research in all its manifestations at the forefront. While the Categories outlined a general model of medieval culture, the book Medieval World: The Culture of the Silent Majority focuses on the study of its stratum, which in modern historiography is called "folk culture."
