Issues of interaction of powerful optical coherent (laser) radiation with nonlinear media are presented. Mathematical formalization of these phenomena based on Maxwell's theory for electromagnetic fields in substances with nonlinear susceptibility and physical interpretation from the standpoint of wave (classical) and quantum theories are considered.
