Explaining the title of his work, Zimovets writes that his "Clinical Anthropology" has nothing to do not only with clinical laws, but also with psychopathology in general. Clinical anthropology, according to the author, is "a study of the techniques of loss of meaning, a study of unconscious strategies and practices of resistance to cogitation and endless comprehension." The question of the loss of meaning and the possibility of getting out of it is analyzed by Zimovets on the basis of the teachings of the famous French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan, whose name is associated with the introduction of a number of fundamental concepts into modern scientific use, without which it is no longer possible to imagine psychoanalysis. As an example of the concepts first defined by the French psychoanalyst, it is enough to name imago - the image highlighted by Lacan "mirror stage," the discovery of three categories of the psyche: real, imaginary and symbolic. In the article "On the metatheoretic foundations of clinical anthropology," Zimovets gives a thoughtful, rather detailed commentary on Lacan's theories regarding the problem of meaning, its actualization in human consciousness and language, the possibility of its loss. Zimovets makes a practical application of Lakan's theories based on the material of classical European literature, revealing new features that are completely unexpected for the traditional reader in the characters of the characters. Turgenevskaya Asya, for example, appears before us as a person "using special discommunicative strategies that allow her to stay in failure mode and at the same time create a situation of rejection." No less original is the result of the analysis of the psychotypic components of the Faustian Margarita or the heroes of Tolstoy's plays.
