There has long been a need to have a more or less complete Russian-Japanese dictionary. The Japanese, after about 10 years of work, already in 1886 printed such a dictionary, but we Russians were not able to use it, since the meanings of Russian words in it are indicated only by hieroglyphs that are not available to Russians. Further compilation of dictionaries by the Japanese went on in the same way and we, the Russians, not having the opportunity to use them, were left completely without Japanese dictionaries.
