This unique publication is the fruit of the joint work of a team of authors in love with the city on the Neva. They faced a very difficult task: it was necessary to show that old cemeteries are an important and integral part of the cultural heritage of the city. The book comprehensively examines all the factors that influenced the formation of the urban necropolis: the topographic and historical-cultural characteristics of individual cemeteries are given; provides general information about the life of different faiths; features of the life and culture of ethnic and social groups of the population of the Northern capital are described.
