Alvis Vitolins (1946-1997) - seven-time champion of Latvia, chess player of an acute attacking style, one of the last debut innovators of the pre-computer era. In the blitz - a world-class player and a constant sparring partner of world champion Mikhail Tal. Vitolins often applied gambits and his novelties in the Sicilian defense, the Spanish party, the defense of Nimtsovich and the defense of Bogolyubov were applied at the highest level, including candidates' tournaments and matches for the world title. Vitolins became an international master in 1980. The book was published in Latvia in 2008 in Latvian, the analyzes were checked using computers available at that time. In 2021, the international master Grigory Bogdanovich, using the latest generation computer programs, tested the entire analytical part of the book and made the necessary corrections.
