In the very title of the book "Indochina. The ashes of four wars" are laid down as if double meaning. First, we will talk about the course of four wars in Indochina: this is an anti-militarist, anti-fascist struggle against the Japanese occupation of Indochina during and in the first months after World War II (1939-1945); this is the anti-colonial war of the Resistance (1946-1954) against the French colonialists; the anti-imperialist war of the Resistance (1964-1975) against the aggressors of the United States and their accomplices in intervention and, finally, the fourth battle - the first in the history of socialist countries a large-scale border thirty-day war between people's China and socialist Vietnam.
