In the fall of 1941, at the BRCW plant in Birmingham, as a result of upgrading the original version of the A27 tank and adapting it to the Rolls-Royce Meteor tank engine and Merritt-Brown transmission, a new design of the A27M cruiser tank was developed, and the first prototype was soon built.
