In the book of D. Verkhoturov, myths are debunked that Siberia is only and exclusively an integral part of Russia. Siberia is a huge independent country that had a rich, diverse history before the Russians, now practically unknown. The multinational Siberian people speak mainly Russian, but have not so much in common with the people of the rest of Russia. Verkhoturov beautifully and accurately shows that the Russian people themselves did not exist and there is no sense in owning Siberia. Siberia is a raw material appendage for the empire, and nothing more. However, the same role is played by other regions of the country: the North-West, Eurosia, the Urals, and the Kuban. These are, in fact, different countries, with different historical and economic logic and direction of development.
