The popular science book is dedicated to the two most outstanding monuments of the Sarmatian era of our country - the Novocherkassk treasure (Khokhlach mound) and the Garden Mound. The author of this book, Lev Samuilovich Klein, a world-famous scientist, supervised the excavations of the Garden Mound. He describes in paints all the collisions of his discovery: unusual circumstances of excavations, Novocherkassk uprising, conflicts of archaeologists, abduction and death of falars - thanks to which the narrative takes on the character of a detective in places. The image of the goddess, the diplomatic gifts of the Romans to the barbarians, the movement of the Roman legions to the Northern Black Sea region, the origin of the Sarmatians, the change of the Sarmatians by the Alans - all these images and events replace each other, bringing to the stage another focus of the story - the First Century, the era with which the modern world begins.
