The famous Russian writer Vasily Belov all his life collected oral stories, stories, songs, proverbs, ditties, letters from readers, notes of experienced people, household items and material culture of the Vologda, Arkhangelsk, Kirov regions of Russia, worked in archives, studied a variety of ethnographic materials and based on all this wealth created a unique book about the natural and philosophical cycle of peasant life in the Russian North. This book is a scientific and at the same time poetic legend about the beauty of the peasant fret. The publication is illustrated with color photographs from filming specially conducted in the Vologda and Arkhangelsk regions.
