The book describes the general patterns of structure formation during hardening, deformation and heat treatment of metals and alloys. The same issues are considered for technical alloys (black and non-ferrous) on the basis of general laws of phase equilibrium and structure formation. Equilibrium diagrams of double and triple systems and crystal structure of phases are given. Some properties of metals and alloys illustrating specific cases of structure formation and methods of metallographic experiment are considered.
