Proposed Russian translation of a book by University of Birmingham professor J.O. Thomson "The History of Ancient Geography" was made from the Cambridge edition of 1948. This work covers the period of development of geographical knowledge, ranging from primitive representations of the most ancient cultural peoples of Egypt, Assyro-Babylonia, Phenicia, Palestine, China and India to the heyday of science in ancient times and ending with the decline of sciences at the beginning of the Middle Ages, that is, from about the third millennium BC up to VI - VII centuries AD.
