The world in this era was changing rapidly, and the people who lived in it were changing. A new picture of the world was created by revolutions, crisis and the development of technology. Veblen's approach was relevant for its time, but in forecasts the economist relied only on the prospects of industry, practically not considering the information revolution. A special place in the book is given to Soviet Russia, its role in the future of civilized humanity. In general, Veblen was one of the first to try to outline the concept of building a technocratic state.
